Earlier today, Sunday, 26th April 2026, the Migrants and Refugees Unit of the Catholic Diocese of Uyo, on a sensitization tour around the diocese, visited St. Anthony Parish, Ewet Housing Estate, Uyo.
During the visit, the Migrants and Refugees Unit in the Parish was inaugurated. Those inaugurated as Executive members of the Unit in the parish include; Aniekpeno Elijah as Coordinator, Oliver Ntambang as Assistant Coordinator, Akonma Blaise as Secretary, James Robson as Assistant Secretary, Veronica Frank as Treasurer, Joseph Emory as PRO, Ekemini Udim as Legal Adviser, and Augusta Etim as Welfare Officer.
Sensitizing the faithful before the inauguration of the unit, the Diocesan Coordinator, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Umodioh noted that the Migrants and Refugees Unit is one of the units under the “Church and Society Department of the Church” created by Pope Francis,
of blessed memory, in 2023 to address the growing needs of Migrants and Refugees in our communities. He brought to the fore the fact that a massive number of persons have been forced to leave their homes due to persecution, violence, natural disasters and the scourge of poverty, and that migration should nevertheless be recognized, not as a new phenomenon, but rather as a natural human response to crisis and a testament to the innate desire of every human being for happiness and a better life.

Moved by compassion, the faithful donated generously to support the welfare of migrants and refugees.
With so many dissenting and competitive voices in the world today, voices that dampens and soil our consciences, Umodioh had earlier in his homily advised the faithful to be able to discern the voice of God as the Good Shepherd, by listening to his voice, allowing God’s word to cut though our hearts, making a radical u-turn from sinful ways and doing only that which he has commanded.
